On Saturday, May 26 at approximately 2:25 a.m., the Mexico Public Safety Department responded to the 600 block of Wade Street in reference to a robbery.
Responding officers spoke with a 55 year-old man from Indiana who was in town for the holiday weekend.
The victim reported being at a local bar, buying drinks for many of the bar patrons, when a man he did not know approached him and asked if he wanted to go to a private party when the bar closed. The victim went with the man to the 600 block of Wade Street, where the man punched the victim and took some money and personal effects.
Investigation identified the suspect as Teron A. Belcher, age 36, of Mexico. On Saturday, May 26 at approximately 10:31 p.m., Belcher was arrested without incident. He was processed at MPSD and later taken to the Audrain County Jail to post bond for Robbery in the 2nd Degree.
The victim did seek medical attention for injuries sustained during the incident.
Citizens are reminded that people arrested/charged with a crime are simply accused of the crime and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.
