Van-Far and Hannibal La-Grange University graduate Ryan Bontz just completed his second full season as the assistant cross country coach at Ohio Christian University and it was the program’s most successful to date.
The boys qualified a team for the NCCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in school history this season.
The team finished eighth in the nation with every runner turning in a season-best time.
Two Lady Blazers also had season-best times in the National Championships, a team Bontz also helps to coach.
“It was really neat being a part of the program this year,” Bontz said.
“We had a lot of adversity and a couple of injuries but we qualified runners and picked up a track person to fill a spot, and got in there to help the team qualify. The runners have good attitudes and the hard work paid off at the end of the season.”
Bontz said he enjoyed his second season.
“I now have a lot more control over things and a lot more things are organized as I have a lot more of an idea on how you’re doing,” Bontz added.
The training began in August and ended in November.
Bontz will be helping with indoor track in January as he is also an assistant track coach.
