Memorial graveside services for Bonnie June Hammett, 83, of Vandalia, was held at 6 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at Lick Creek Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Barnhart officiating. No visitation is planned. Services are under the direction of Bienhoff Funeral Home, Perry.
Mrs. Hammett passed away at 1:50 p.m., April 10, 2012 at Tri-County Care Center, Vandalia.
She was born June 8, 1928 in Bowling Green, the daughter of Taylor Benjamin and Emma Elsie Eberline Pettey.
She was married to Clayton Phears and he preceded her in death in 1987.
She then married John (Jack) Hammett and he preceded her in death in 2008.
Survivors include one sister and her husband, Alta and Bob Bland of Vandalia; sister-in-law, Wilma Pettey of Altoona, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews and great niece and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lee Taylor Pettey and Charles (Bud) Pettey; and two sisters, Helen Quinlan and Hazel McCluskey.
Mrs. Hammett was a lifetime area resident and Christian by faith. She was a 1945 graduate of Bowling Green High School. She served as the vice-president of the Laddonia State Bank having worked there for thirty years. She then was employed by Martinsburg Bank five years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, watching bull riding, and spending time with her family.
