Two suspects are now in custody and a third is being sought in connection with a homicide July 6 in rural Audrain County near the Centralia Battlefield.
The Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad noted in a press release that Richard N. Henry III, age 37, of Overland, Mo., and Arline L. Diedrich, age 39, of St. Ann, Mo., are awaiting formal charges after being taken into custody July 9 at Henry III’s resident by the squad’s detectives.
On July 6, the body of 30-year-old victim Leon Wilder III, of Columbia, was discovered by a passerby along Audrain County Road 997, north of Grassland School road in the Centralia area.
Law enforcement and medical personnel were dispatched to the scene around 2:20 p.m. that same day and an autopsy was performed by the Boone County Medical Examiner. Autopsy findings determined the victim died from a gunshot wound.
Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller said leads from helpful witnesses along with surveillance video from area businesses along with some creative thinking by in -vestigators tied the suspects to the victim, leading to their arrests.
“I can’t say how thankful I am that we are members of the MMMCS,” Audrain County Sheriff Matt Oller noted.
“The men and women from the member agencies are top shelf. This case was difficult given the suspects were not from the area.”
