The Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 2173 met on Thursday, March 9 at the post home in Vandalia. President Norma Jean Shaw called the 7 p.m. meeting to order.
Opening ceremonies were observed.
The February minutes were approved as read. The Treasurer’s report showed the current balance with her report being filed for audit.
Correspondence was read from the Department of Missouri. Seven new members were present.
They were Barbara Holman, Donna Holman, Joyce Holman, Lee Shaw, Leon Shaw, Lionel Shaw, and Lloyd Shaw.
Auxiliary President Shaw welcomed the first gentlemen into the local auxiliary and VFW Post No. 2173 Commander Larry Shaw welcomed the new members.
Community Service Chair Ann Wasson collected hours from the members present.
During the business meeting, a donation was approved to the Van-Far Project Prom Committee. Scholarship information was discussed.
Lloyd Shaw volunteered to pursue the Retired Flag Drop Box to be added at the Post Home. It was noted that a veteran’s grave is located on property near the 1000 S. Maple Housing complex. There was discussion of Buddy Poppy Days and Memorial Day flag placements.
It was announced that volunteers are needed to attend the Missouri Veterans’ Home, in Mexico, Bingo Days the 4th Wednesday each month. Closing ceremonies were observed.
The group in celebration of the seven new members present enjoyed refreshments.
The sixteen members attending were Joy Davis, Vivian Davis, Val Galloway, Mary Gramley, Barbara Holman, Donna Holman, Joyce Holman, Judy Hull, Lee Shaw, Leon Shaw, Lionel Shaw, Lloyd Shaw, Norma Shaw, Victoria Shaw, Ann Wasson, and Wanda Winders.
The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, April 13 at the post home.
