The Audrain County Area Public School Retirees met December 6 in the Board Room at Mexico Public Schools Central Office.
President Jan Douglas called the meeting to order with 40 in attendance.
Douglas thanked the social committee, consisting of Deborah Teague, Jane Rankin, Gail Purcell, and Laura Worstell.
Teague led the group in the Pledge. Purcell gave the devotion entitled “Perfect Gift.”
Joan Fecht gave the Treasurer’s Report which has a balance of $175.35.
Barbara Parker read a thank you from the Mexico Senior Center, thanking the group for helping with the Home Bound Christmas gift distribution.
President Douglas passed around a program book and asked members to check addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses. The new Biennium books will be handed out in February 2018.
Dr. Zachary Templeton, Superintendent of Mexico Public Schools, welcomed everyone and gave a report on the Mexico Schools. Dr. Templeton also answered questions.
Legislative chairperson Worstell reminded members to read their MRTA Newsletter and had provided everyone with a copy of the 2018 MRTA Legislative Platform. February 13, 2018 is Legislative Day at the capitol. Members can go online and read what bills are being pre-filed. Informative Protective chairperson Margaret Thomas, warned the members about holiday scams.
Membership chairperson Teague, reported that Audrain County had 76% renewal rate for MRTA and our local had an 80% renewal rate. Community Participation chairperson Sally Stuart thanked members for their donations for ACCIS. Stuart explained to the group that the Moser’s rebate money for Next Step would be returned and that ACAPSR would have more money coming in from Moser’s in the coming year. Stuart reminded members to tally their volunteer hours, food donated, and money donated to food banks and to e-mail her those totals at the first part of January.
The piggybank was passed for MRTF which supports local schools with classroom grants.
The Region IV meeting at Fulton was reported on. Fourteen members attended. Teague received a certificate for being our Distinguished Retiree.
Shar Schnake related that several members had helped to hand out Christmas baskets to Audrain County home bound senior citizens. ACAPSR had also donated items and money for the baskets.
Members will be ringing bells for the Salvation Army on December 9 at Moser’s.
Bev MacFarlane reported that she would be purchasing a book on behalf of ACAPSR in memory of Lois Motley and Elaine Cornett in February. The book will be donated to the Audrain County Library.
Douglas told members that Edna DeVault had recently reached her 100th birthday. Teague moved that ACAPSR make DeVault an Emeritus Member. Maureen Hacker seconded the motion and the motion passed.
President Douglas expressed thanks to the officers and chairpersons for the last two years. Douglas had a present for each. She also had left a treat bag at each place for members.
Vice-President Diana Henage, presented Douglas with a Christmas gift and thanks for being president. Maureen Hacker was recognized for being Region IV Vice-President.
Hacker installed the officers for the 2018-2020 Biennium as follows: Diana Henage, president; Deborah Teague, vice-president; Donna Quinlan, secretary; Sue Ann Keith, corresponding secretary; and Joan Fecht, treasurer.
The next meeting will be February 7, 2018. The location will be announced later.
Jane Rankin gave the blessing for the meal. A delicious hot luncheon was provided by the Mexico Public Schools. After lunch, “Noteworthy” entertained with Christmas songs and dance.
