Area veterans honored at Van-Far

The MMA Color Guard presents the colors during the event at Van-Far.

The Van-Far R-I School District held a Veteran’s Day event to honor area veterans on Friday, November 10 at Van-Far Jr./Sr. High School.
Area veterans were escorted into the gym by Van-Far students as the packed bleachers filled with students and community members stood and applauded in appreciation of their service.
National Honor Society President Mackenzie Kurz gave the welcome before the MMA Color Guard presented the colors.
The Van-Far High School and Junior High School choirs performed the National Anthem.
Veteran and teacher Tom Roth then led those in attendance in the “Pledge of Allegiance.”
The Van-Far Chiefs Band and the combined choirs then performed the “Armed Forces Medley.” This year’s guest speaker was Korbin Hays, a Class of 2010 graduate from Van-Far. Hays talked about how his time in the service has taught him on being a better person along with core values.
He discussed his deployment and his appreciation for spending time with his family.
Kevin Morris sang “God Bless the USA” followed by a student speech from Paige Dameron. A PowerPoint presentation was shown featuring a salute to veterans with several photos and accompanying music. Van-Far Jr./Sr. High School Principal Kim Pafford gave the closing.
Teresa Winders was the emcee of the event.
