VANDALIA—Bill Allen tapped as transportation director for the Van-Far School District during a special meeting held by the Van-Far Board of Education, Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021. It was a unanimous decision by the board.
Allen, who has been the Western District commissioner for Pike County since 2017, has a resume that provides more than enough experience for such a job. He had been a road and bridge supervisor in both Pike and Audrain counties, coupled with years of experience working for the Missouri Department of Transportation as a supervisor.
He has also kept busy with his auction business.
Allen said he’s not worried about the time commitment with taking on the new position.
“Time management is key. Being able to multi-task is essential,” he explained. “I have always kept busy, ever since I was a young kid.”
Van-Far’s School Board sought to fill the role of transportation director after the position was left open because the former director retired.
Allen said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to fill the role and looking forward to putting my knowledge and experience to good use.”
The agenda of the special meeting to hire Bill Allen included setting a stipend for the transportation secretary, but that was not addressed, and will be presented at a later date.
