Alan Winders is formally announcing that he will seek election to the position of Associate Commissioner for the Eastern District of Audrain County. Filing begins in February. “My desire to seek this office is based on my commitment to serve this area and the people who live here,” Winders said.
Former City of Vandalia Administrator Winders has deep roots in Audrain County, having been raised on a small farm south of Vandalia. He, and his wife Teresa, moved back to the farm when his parents decided to move to Vandalia. Three generations of the Winders family have graduated from the Van-Far R-I High School: Alan’s parents (Wanda and Clinton); Alan and his siblings (Paula and Warren); and his three children (Tyler, Alexandra, and Andrew).
Winders has over 30 years in local government service. Serving as City Administrator in Vandalia, he has devoted 14 years of service to local government here in Audrain County. Additionally, Winders was City Administrator in Ottumwa and Storm Lake, Iowa, along with several other municipal positions in Iowa and Missouri.
“Audrain, like most rural counties, faces the challenges of finding economic development opportunities, of meeting the needs of the residents and still balancing the county budget, and ensuring that county government is open and accessible for all of us who live here,” Winders commented. “My 30 years in local government provide me with the unique experience and qualifications to be of help to our county as we address those issues and move forward.”
“I look forward to opportunities in the coming months to talk with people about the challenges of today and hopes for the future of Audrain County,” stated Winders.
