At the June 21 meeting of the Agape House of Vandalia board, members were pleased to learn of the approval by United Way of Audrain County for funding in 2017; the amount to be received is yet to be determined.
In other business, members learned that 43 guests, including five children, had stayed at the guesthouse in May. Well over two thirds of the guests visited men in the correctional center in Bowling Green.
Kay Robnett reported she had recently completed and submitted a grant application to (St. Louis) Cardinals’ Care for funding for fuel cards for visiting families that include children.
Agape House has been awarded grants to benefit children from the Cardinals on two previous occasions.
Work is expected to begin soon on replacement of the rear exit steps. Minor repairs were made to the air conditioner in the manager’s apartment.
Board members learned of the placement of fire extinguishers in both kitchens, in the water heater area, at the top of the stairs and in laundry room. When the mounting frames are available, fire and disaster escape information will be placed in each guest room as well as in other locations in the Agape House.
The next meeting will be held Tuesday, July 19 at 3:30 p.m.
Board members in attendance were Alberta Cropp, Carlene Galloway, Janet Heim, Elwood LaRue, Floy Oliver, Robnett, and Veanna Snodgrass.
