Agape House board members were on hand Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27, to greet several guests who stopped by for the open house.
Tours were provided and information about the purposes of the guest house was given. This house has hosted nearly 10,000 guests in its 20 years of operation; these guests were in Vandalia to visit loved ones at Northeast Correction Center of Bowling Green or the Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center of Vandalia.
A business meeting was held on the same afternoon. House manager Karen Craig indicated a minor plumbing issue has been reported and repairs would be done soon. The manager also said she would be preparing a meat and cheese tray for guests on Thanksgiving Day because restaurants in the area might not be open.
Board President Rich Duffner reported that he had done light cleaning at the front entrance of the building. Plans to install new flooring in parts of the building were announced and a new cell dialer would be installed on the alarm system. Duffner also recently presented the annual report to the United Way of Audrain County board.
Members in attendance were Jane Duffner, R. Duffner, Janet Heim, Eldora Lowry, Floy Oliver, Phil Pennington, Kay Robnett, and Mary Thomas.
Monetary gifts received in September included: United Way of Audrain County; Edgewood Baptist Church of Bowling Green; Bethlehem Baptist Church of Centralia; Curryville Baptist Church and Juanita Meyer of Curryville; Farber Baptist Church; Knights of Columbus Auxiliary No. 10381 of Gravois Mills; Hopewell Baptist Church and John Yost of Thompson; and Southside Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and First Christian Church, all of Vandalia.
