Several members of the Vandalia Area Chamber of Commerce joined employees and administrative officials of Niemann Foods, Inc. during a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Monday, March 10 for the new ACE Hardware location.
The chamber’s Kyle Fisher and Niemann Foods’ Director of Consumer Affairs Gerry Kettler stretched out the ribbon, which was cut by Vandalia’s Store Director David Edgington, in front of several ACE Hardware employees.
“We’re just so pleased to be here,” Kettler said in a brief address to a crowd that also included some patrons who arrived in time for the ‘soft’ opening. “We’re so proud of what the team has done.”
Kettler noted the difficult transition time for the community when ALCO left town. He added that he thinks ACE Hardware will be a “nice addition to the community.”
“On behalf of the community, we’re very appreciative of your investment,” said City Administrator Alan Winders. “We’re thankful for the reinvestment in the community.”
Winders congratulated the staff and other Niemann Foods representatives and noted that the location “certainly looks great.”
Rich Niemann, President and CEO of Niemann Foods, was also present for the opening of the store.
He noted the importance of the location keeping the tax dollars local.
“We’re interested in being an integral part of the community,” he added.
Niemann added that with ACE Hardware now being open, the company will eventually turn its focus on filling any vacancies of the business center it purchased last year.
Other community leaders attending the event included Assistant City Administrator Debbie Hopke, PCDA Executive Director Carolyn Wisecarver, Mayor Pro-Tem John Weiser, along with several Vandalia Area Chamber of Commerce members.
An official Grand Opening is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19. The current hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sundays.
