On a cold Saturday night in Vandalia, the air was filled with excitement and the sweet scent of autumn as the Vandalia Fair Board hosted their annual Trunk-or-Treat event at the the fairgrounds, where children, dressed in an array of costumes from superheroes to witches, eagerly moved from trunk to trunk, collecting candy and treats.
There were firetrucks, ambulances, vehicles and tables set up with the trunks creatively decorated with spooky and festive themes and games.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the walking tacos, a beloved treat that drew a crowd. The fair board members, with smiles on their faces, served more than 500 walking tacos to hungry attendees. Each taco was a delightful mix of seasoned meat, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes, all nestled in a crunchy bag of chips. The warm, savory aroma wafted through the air, making it nearly impossible for anyone to resist.
Adding to the night’s excitement, Lori Culwell, with the help of her friends, put on a haunted barn that sent shivers down the spines of those brave enough to enter. The barn was transformed into a spooky maze filled with eerie decorations, creepy sounds, and unexpected scares. It became a popular attraction, with groups of friends and families daring each other to venture inside.
