DWAINE BARNES

Dwaine Barnes, 87 of Farber, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2025 at 1:15 AM

Dwaine, a lifetime rural Farber resident and farmer, was born on June 1, 1938, at the family home to Henry R. and Hazel (Jerman) Barnes. He was the third son in a family of five boys and two girls. He attended Hickory Grove Grade School and Farber High School where he played basketball, a sport he truly loved.

Dwaine was inducted into the US Army in October of 1956 and was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4 in October of 1958. He served in the 24th Evac Hospital at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Dwaine was always proud to share that all five Barnes brothers served in the US Army.

On October 26, 1958, Dwaine married Jean (Smith) Barnes in Vandalia, MO, and they shared 66 years of farm life, camping trips with rousing rounds of Boogaloo, card parties, and sitting on the back deck enjoying the deer, turkeys, birds, and the occasional glass of Jack Daniel’s. Dwaine also enjoyed woodworking and gifted his grandchildren with toy boxes, benches and train tables. He also enjoyed golf with friends and a good baseball or basketball game, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and MU Tigers. In their later years, Dwaine and Jean took many road trips around the United States stopping at whatever caught their attention or visiting far flung family members.

Dwaine raised row crops and pigs for over 60 years working hard for his family and his community. He was a man of faith and service, and he often provided the heavy lifting for gardening projects for La Femme Arts Club and the First Christian Church in Vandalia.

Dwaine and Jean were blessed with two children: Jon Barnes (Pam) of Perry, MO and Beth Ryan (John) of Springfield, MO. They also have five grandchildren: Cameron, Cole and Christian Ryan of Springfield, MO, and Thomas and Samantha Barnes of Perry, MO. Dwaine and Jean supported their children and grandchildren in ball games, school programs, cross country meets, color guard and anything else they had time to attend. He was not a man of many words, but he was always supportive and bestowed his brilliant smile often.

Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruth Nell Heaton, brother, Ronald Barnes; brothers-in-law Donald Heaton and Lee Smith; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Barnes, Norma Barnes, and Wanda Smith-Bruner and nephews, Randy Barnes, Alan Barnes and Darryl Heaton and great-niece Lacy Jo Smith-Hammons. He is survived by his wife, his children and grandchildren and his brothers, Ramon Barnes, Danny (Anne) Barnes and Dennis (Virginia) Barnes and his sister, Barbara (Dan) Voss.

Pall bearers will be Cameron, Cole and Christian Ryan, Thomas Barnes, Ramon Barnes, Danny Barnes and Dennis Barnes.

Visitation will be held at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Vandalia from 4-7 PM on July 15, 2025.

The funeral service will be held at First Christian Church in Vandalia, MO at 10 AM on July 16, 2025.

Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Church cemetery in rural Vandalia.

Memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or First Christian Church of Vandalia in care of Bienhoff Funeral Home, PO Box 54 Vandalia, MO 63382.
