The Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia hosted a special “Tribute to 9/11” concert for residents and staff last week as a way to pay tribute to area first responders.
Special gift baskets were given by TCCC staff to the Vandalia Fire Department, Vandalia Police Department, and the Van-Far Ambulance District.
“We want you all to know how well we appreciate you all,” said TCCC Activity Director Davaline Overton during the event.
Performers included Vandalia’s Charles Overton with vocals and saxophone, Bill Morrison on keyboard, and Rob Killam on bass.
Vandalia’s Charles White also sang a special song for the large crowd in attendance.
Songs performed included “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” by Cannonball Adderley; “On the Boardwalk” by Billy King; “Wine Light” by Grover Washington Jr.; “Wonderful World” by Louis Daniel Armstrong; “Kansas City” by Wilbert Harrison; and then an original piece by Overton inspired by James Brown. “Georgia” by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell was also performed by special request.
