January 6
Community R-VI Lady Trojans basketball team knocks off the No. 5 team in Class 1 (Jamestown) at the Gary Filbert Classic in Mexico, Mo.
January 13
Ted Monachino, an NFL coach with local ties, was named the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.
Van-Far Indians’ boys basketball team takes third in the Madison Tournament.
Van-Far’s Nick Barnes scores his 1,000th career point.
Lady Trojans basketball squad takes second in the Madison Tournament.

Lady Trojans basketball picks up wins over Elsberry and Wright City.
Van-Far Lady Indians basketball picks up big win over Elsberry.

Madison Orr signs letter of intent to play softball with John Wood Community College.

Van-Far Booster Club hosts annual tournaments for 3rd-6th graders.
Trojans basketball falls in Consolation finals to Sturgeon in the Bulldogs’ tournament.
Lady Trojans basketball places second in Sturgeon Tournament.
Van-Far Indians win Consolations in Bowling Green Tournament.
February 10
Lady Indians basketball team gets past Montgomery County for big win.
Indians basketball picks up “Paint It Pink Night” win over Mark Twain.
February 17
Anthony Fairchild signs letter of intent with Westminster College to play football.
Indians basketball beats both Wellsville and MMA to push record to .500. as they won five of final six games.
Lady Trojans basketball outscores three teams 192-149 for three wins.
Kasey Gatson selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District team.
February 24
Van-Far JV Indians boys finish season with 13-3 record.
Lady Trojans basketball wins home finale by 54 points over Marion County.
March 2
Trojans’ basketball season ends in 2OT loss in the first round of districts.
Community R-VI Lady Trojans basketball wins third straight district championship.
Kasey Gatson is named all-conference for Westminster College.
March 9
Eight local players named to All-EMO Conference for basketball. Several also earn All-District honors.

Van-Far boys track team dominates Montgomery County practice event winning it by more than 32 team points.
April 6
Van-Far golf beats Bowling Green in tough four-team match.
Van-Far’s Lathyn McMorris wins 1,600 meters in meet with several larger schools. Jordan Garner wins pole vault event.
Sam Middleton wins 80 meters in Winfield Mini-Medal Junior High meet.
April 13
Van-Far golfer Brayden Christian wins medal honors at Paris match.
Van-Far track is dominant at two area meets. First place winners in Bowling Green 4×400 relay, 4×100 relay, 4×800 relay, Lathyn McMorris (800), and Tyler Robinson (3,200). In MSD meet, team wins meet by 50 points. Winners were McMorris (3,200) and the 4×100. Jordan Garner won the pole vault and Jayle Jennings won the 3,200 meters.
April 20
Community R-VI’s Samm Jett signs with John Wood Community College to play basketball.
Van-Far track was led by Tyler Robinson winning both the 1,600- and 3,200-meters in the North Callaway Invitational. Parker Wallace on the 200, Jacob Garner won the 100, and the 4×100-meter relay won. Abbegail Robinson won the long jump and Jordan Garner won the pole vault. In Wright City, Van-Far’s boys were led by the 4×400 winning their race.
Community R-VI Junior High 4×400-meter relay girls team sets school record at Montgomery Middle School meet. Cadin Escamilla sets new school record in 800.
Van-Far baseball gets big win over Louisiana.
Community R-VI baseball beats rival Van-Far 21-11 and takes third in Madison Tournament after beating Slater.
April 27
Van-Far baseball avenges 21-9 loss to rival Community R-VI by winning the Trojans’ tournament for first championship under head coach Wes Rowden since 2002.
Kasey Gatson named 2016 SLIAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Van-Far’s Lathyn McMorris wins 1,600 meters in Monroe City. The 4×800 won as well. The 4×100 girls team won their race.
At a second meet in Monroe City, Parker Wallace won the 400 meters and the girls 4×100 meter won. Abbegail Robinson won the long jump.
Eric Hombs sects school record in the discus at Montgomery City meet.
