Even though the current football season will soon come to a close, Van-Far high school is looking to make some improvements for the future. The current press box that has been in use since the 1967-68 season, is currently in the process of being upgraded.
Upon completion, the first level will feature handicap accessible bathrooms for both men and women. The second level will primarily be used for storage. The third and fourth levels will be used for the scorekeeper, announcer, as well as room for home and away team filming.
The goal of the school district is to take care of the things they have and to improve upon them when possible. Likewise, an improvement effort like this takes both time and money. On October 26, Van-Far Booster Club members and volunteers gathered on the chilly Saturday morning to donate their time working on the project. While a lot of the old materials will be salvaged, a new four-story press box will be constructed.
“If the press box costs $10,000, then it’s a split. If the cost is $14,000, it’s still a split. They (the school board) will pay up to $7,000, and then it’s up to the booster club after that,” Van-Far High School Principal Cindy Pirch explained.
Plans to build a new complex and press box has been ongoing for many years. However, the board made serious strides to move forward with the press box construction sometime in May or June of this year. Project completion is undetermined at this time.
Volunteers are still needed as the booster club will continue to work on the press box this Saturday, November 2.
