The Missouri State Genealogical Association (MoSGA) announced Teresa Wenzel, member of the Vandalia Area Historical Society, will be a recipient of the MoSGA Director’s Award to be presented at the state’s annual conference in Columbia on August 1-2, 2014. The MoSGA Director’s Award is given to individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to the field of genealogy and family history over an extended period of time.
Webster defines genealogy as “the science or study of family descent”, and through the years Teresa and husband, Kevin have devoted many hours to this subject. They have extensively researched their families and helped others to obtain information to fill missing links in family histories.
Teresa is the current President of Audrain County Area Genealogy Society, treasurer of the Susanna Randolph Chapter of DAR, a member of Missouri State Genealogical Association, Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society, and National Genealogical Society.
The Vandalia resident also edits Kevin’s articles for the Elijah Gates Camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Wenzel is working with other members of the Vandalia Area Historical Society toward the opening of their Genealogy Research Library.
Starting in September the Genealogical Library will be open to the public on the first Thursday of the month from 1-4 p.m. and the second, third, and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 9-11:30 a.m.
Numerous family histories are on file and any additional family histories that are available from the community are welcomed.
Books are being compiled of obituaries, births, marriages, yesteryear, and other informative Vandalia area information.
