The Ladies’ Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 2173 met on Thursday, September 12 at the post home in Vandalia. President Victoria Shaw called the 7 p.m. meeting to order. Opening ceremonies were observed. The minutes were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was filed. Correspondence read included General Orders No. 2 for September 2013; an award from Missouri Veterans’ Home in Mexico for monetary contributions; an invitation to an October 2, luncheon buffet at the Missouri Veterans’ Home to honor the auxiliary for the monetary contributions made from July 2012 through June 2013. Committee reports were made from Val Galloway for membership, from Joy Davis for Youth Activities, and Ann Wasson for Community Service. Norma Shaw would have an exhibit at the town library in recognition of POW/MIA Day, September 20.
Plans for the Auxiliary Garage Sale and Table Rental for the All Town Garage Sale on Saturday, October 5. The table rental fee is $10. Call Norma Shaw at 573-594-6585 or Victoria Shaw at 573-594-2152 to reserve a table. The event will be from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. with set up from 6-8 a.m. No Friday setup. The Auxiliary will participate in the Adopt-a-Vet program at Missouri Veterans’ Home for the three local vets living there: John Fitzgerald, Edward Parks, and Wade Belts. It was announced that a VFW/Auxiliary supper is planned for Saturday, November 9 with entertainment to follow. Closing ceremonies were observed. Members in attendance were Joy Davis, Vivian Davis, Val Galloway, Mary Gramley, Norma Shaw, Victoria Shaw, and Ann Wasson. The next auxiliary meeting is Thursday, October 10, at the post home.
