The Vandalia Area Fair officially begins this upcoming Tuesday, June 24 with the Vandalia Area Fair Parade at 5:30 p.m. Parade entries are to line up at 4:30 p.m. at the former South School Lot. A Decorated Tricycle and Bicycles contest takes place at 5 p.m. before the parade at the Post Office parking lot.
The Old Machinery and Antique Tractor Display starts at 6 p.m. and runs every day of the Fair.
The Ice Cream and Cake Social will be held inside the School Building at 6 p.m.
Melissa Nutt performs in the pavilion at 6 p.m. with the G.T.P.O.M.M.A. pull at 7 p.m. Also at that time will be the start of a Horse and Pony Fun Show in the Horse Arena. There will be free admission on Tuesday.
The Cake Decorating Contest opens day two at 5 p.m. for ages 6-12 and 13-17.
Cakes must be dropped off at the fairgrounds no later than 3:30 p.m. with judging taking place at 4:30 p.m. For more information, contact Kelly Mink at 573-470-8692.
Wednesday also includes the Pet Show at 5:30 p.m. and a Mud Pig Catch at 6 p.m. in the Horse Arena.
Motocross headlines the evening at 7 p.m. Registration for the event starts at 4 p.m. with practice at 6 p.m.

A Super Farmer Contest, organized by Stephanie Fischer, will start at 7:30 p.m. on the Main Track. For more information call 573-473-2765.

On Thursday, the Pie Baking Contest starts the evening at 5 p.m.
Categories are listed as fruit and other. Ages to participate are 6-17 and over 18. Pies must be dropped off at the fairgrounds no later than 3:30 p.m. with judging taking place at 4:30 p.m.
Entry forms for both baking contests will be in the Vandalia Fairbook.
At 6:30 p.m., the Baby Show will be held in the pavilion. The entry fee is $2 for a contest opened to boys and girls who have not turned 3 years old by July 1, 2014.
Kids ages 0-12 months must wear white T-shirts along with a diaper or white shorts. Socks and tennis shoes are also acceptable. Teresa Stuart is the chairperson for the event.
The Missouri Farm Pullers Truck/Tractor Pull starts at 7 p.m. on the Main Track.

Heather Buchanan’s 7:30 p.m. performance in the pavilion is followed by the 8 p.m. start of the Midwest Cowboy’s Rodeo Company rodeo. There will be free sheep riding for ages 6 and under. Those wishing to participate must call in by Monday, June 23 from 7-11 p.m., 573-470-2463.
On Friday, the Photo Contest will be featured in the School Building beginning at 5 p.m.
Ramsey Dickerman is holding some new Kids Events from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The Little Mr. and Little Miss Contest will start at 6:30 p.m. inside the pavilion. Registration will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and children must be ages 3-5 by July 1, 2014. Children also must reside within a 30-mile radius of Vandalia.
An Egg Drop Contest will be held at 7 p.m. followed by Madison Stuart on the Main Track at 7 p.m., the Lawnmower Derby in the Horse Arena at 7:30 p.m., and Shawna Russell at 8:30 p.m. Russell is one of the top independent female recording artists on the MusicRow Radio Chart during the past year.
Russell sings contemporary country music influenced by 1970’s country-rock and California pop, this according to “County Weekly.”
The 4-H and FFA Cattle Show will be held in the Cattle Barn at 10 a.m. on the final day of the Fair. On the same day, the Vandalia Area Historical Society will have a display inside the School Building from 5-8 p.m.
A Volleyball Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. The event will benefit the Vandalia Recreation Corporation Library/YMCA Project.
Tricycle Races start at 6 p.m. with registration at 5:30 p.m. in the pavilion. The event is followed by 6 p.m. registration for the 6:30 p.m. Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull. Paul and Cindy Evans are the chairpersons.
The MMTTPA Truck and Tractor Pull is set for 7 p.m.
“Pike 41” concludes the day with their 8 p.m. performance. “Pike 41” features Joey Ringhausen and Dylan Stubblefield. The two recently wrote and performed “Small Town Livin’” at the Fair Auction in February.
Each night of the Fair features the Fairgrounds opening at 5 p.m. along with the Main Food Stand. The Carnival rides and games will be provided by Conner Family Amusements, Inc. They start each night at 6 p.m. The Track Food Stand also opens at that time.
