Three Van-Far band members earned “excellent” ratings for their performances at the MSHSAA Music Festival held recently at Mexico.
Breanna Gollaher, flute, Sarah Sutton, clarinet, and Janie Swarthout, saxophone, all received “II” ratings, dictating excellence, for their Saturday performances during “Solo and Ensemble Day” at the festival.
“I thought they performed with true musical excellence,” Lisa Dobbs, Van-Far music instructor, said.
“I was really proud of them.”
She said a “I” rating, or superior, is an invite to state competition. A “II” rating equates “frequently demonstrating proper fundamental technique and musical effect.”
Following suit, the Chiefs junior high and high school combined ensemble band also earned a “II” rating.
“I was really happy with the judges comments,” Dobbs said. “I thought their comments were very accurate with the performance I heard.”
She said aside from the rating, the band picked up some useful feedback from the festival with the judges noting the band was “enthusiastic” with “clear ensemble precision.”
