The St. Louis Cardinals announced today the schedule for the team’s 2014 Cardinals Caravan that includes a noon stop in Mexico, Missouri on Friday, January 17th.
The free event, sponsored by Mexico radio station KXEO-AM, will be held at The Missouri Military Academy Gymtorium.
The announced Caravan for Mexico includes NLCS MVP Michael Wacha, pitcher Tyler Lyons, minor league outfielders Stephen Piscotty and Jermaine Curtis, along with Cardinal alumni pitchers Alan Benes and John Costello along with emcee John Rooney and Fredbird.
As in previous years, the Cardinals will be implementing an Autograph Ticket system at each stop. The first 400 kids (15 and under) through the door on the day of the event will receive a free Autograph Ticket which guarantees one autograph from each current and former player. Due to high demand, autographs will only be available for fans 15 and under.
Raffle tickets will be sold at the event for a plethora of Cardinal memorabilia.
Money raised will go to benefit the Community R-VI Sports Boosters, MHS Sports Boosters, and MMA.
The Cardinals will embark with five separate caravans on 19 stops and visit 18 total cities throughout Cardinal Nation. The caravan will venture through Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas and Tennessee including the respective cities of local minor league affiliates Memphis (Tennessee), Springfield (Missouri) and Peoria (Illinois), from January 17–20,.
A combination of current players, future stars and former Cardinals will travel on each caravan emceed by a current team broadcaster. Current players include NLCS MVP Michael Wacha, Rookie of the Year finalist Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly, Matt Adams, Shane Robinson, Seth Maness, Kevin Siegrist and Tyler Lyons. Minor-league prospects include 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year Zach Petrick, Minor League Player of the Year Kolten Wong, plus Stephen Piscotty, Oscar Taveras, Greg Garcia and more.
Danny Cox, John Mabry, Alan and Andy Benes, Ryan Franklin and Jason Simontacchi among others will represent Cardinals Alumni, while broadcasters Mike Claiborne, Tom Ackerman, John Rooney, Rick Horton and Dan McLaughlin will serve as emcees.
Team mascot Fredbird will also make an appearance on the caravans.
This is the fourth straight year 1340 KXEO has hosted the Cardinal Caravan. The station celebrates 66 years of service in 2014.
Missouri Military Academy is an accredited boys boarding school for grades 6-12 with a military tradition that combines the academic rigor of a college preparatory school with the leadership and adventure training of a military academy.
They are located at 204 N. Grand Street in Mexico. The Gymtorium is located on the northeast side of the campus off of Pollock Road.
