The St. Cecilia Music Club met May 19 at 7 p.m. at the home of Sue Beshears.
Those present were Ruth Calcaterra, Deanna Divins, Deanna Frey, Leanna Leake, Denna Nichols, Brenda Gower, and Sue Beashers. Valarie Franke was a guest.
It was announced that Cody Buie had received the John Philip Sousa award for 2013-14 at Van-Far School.
The music club is to sing at the Veteran Day Memorial Service held by the area VFW on May 26. It was decided that there would be enough in attendance for us to participate. The program begins at 10 a.m. at the VFW Hall in Vandalia.
An appreciation note was sent by the Morris family thanking the club for singing at the funeral of Sunny Morris.
The annual “Gospel Sing” was discussed. The groups mentioned at the last meeting were not available on the stated dates. The Family Life Center is available and it was agreed that June 29 would be the date for the “Gospel Sing” with Deanna Divins contacting area churches and club members contacting their own churches about providing one or two numbers for the program. The order of the program will be according to when the groups arrive and sign up on that day.
Sue Beshears, hostess, asked us each to provide a song that we knew in a different language as our roll call. Ruth Calcaterra demonstrated her Q-Chord instrument that she had recently received.
After music was practiced refreshments were served by Sue Beshears and fellowship enjoyed.
