Van-Far track and field coach Blake Logan said the squad has worked hard to be ready for the season’s start on Saturday, March 23, in Hannibal despite the wet weather.
The team will add one throwers but has fewer sprinters than last year.
Last season, the team had no throwers and Logan looks forward to the added dimension, in the form of Brandon Billings.
“Our team is not big enough to compete for team accolades but the individuals have been working extremely hard and are looking at having their work pay off as the season is right around the corner,” Logan said, noting the lack of sprinters for the 2013 season.
For team notables, Logan said he hopes Chevi Windland will continue her strengths as a distance runner.
“Winland came on strong early in the season as a distance runner but was hampered with some injuries late,” he said.
“We are hoping she can stay healthy, as she has a bright future.”
The squad added freshmen Nick Carpenter and John Parrott, who will compete in the 200 meter and 400 meter events.
For the girls team, freshman Abby Robinson entered track and field for her first season to compete in sprinting and jump events.
Returners for the team include Breanna Gollaher, sprints and middle distance; Windland, middle distance and distance; Abilene Gatson, middle distance an hurdles; and Autumn Cross, sprints and jumps.
