Ralph Wesley Mottaz, age 83, of Pasadena, Calif. passed away August 26, 2012 at Huntington Memorial Hospital of prolonged illnesses. He was born in Fulton, Mo. June 23, 1929, the son of Theodore “Ted” and Inez Mottaz.
Ralph graduated from Vandalia High School in the Class of 1947.
He graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Philosophy; completing his Masters Degree majoring in Computer Science at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.
Ralph continued his studies at UCLA in Westwood, Calif.; nearing completion of his Doctorate of Philosophy.
He served with the United States Air Force from 1952-1954. Ralph worked many years in the computer science field.
Ralph was married to Shirley Jean Treadway of Vandalia, Mo. To this marriage was born one son, Gregory Stewart Mottaz.
In addition to his son, Gregory of Bull Head, Nev.; he is survived by one brother, Ted Mottaz, and wife Marilyn, of Columbia, Mo.; nieces, nephews, and families: Lisa Lovell and husband Rich, Vandalia, Mo.; Kathy Bryan, Savannah, and Hunter Drew of Orchard Park, N.Y.; Paige Robinson and Jordon Robinson, of Vandalia, Mo.; great nieces and nephews: Lindsey, Josh, Jude, and Myles Yancey, of Laddonia, Mo.; Steven Mottaz, of Evan, Colo.; Maggie, Paul, Katherine, and Alex Durant, of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; Laura, Jim, Abbie, and Charlotte Ries, of Columbia, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Inez Mottaz, Shirley Mottaz Reilly, nephew Ted P. Mottaz, and great-nephew Andy Robinson.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
