The Community R-VI varsity boys basketball team shared a victory on Tuesday, December 17 with the Lady Trojans varsity girls squad after a hard-fought win over the tough Clopton program, winning it 59-50.
The Trojans won the first and second quarter 15-12 for a 30-24 lead over the Hawks at halftime. Clopton went 12-11 to take the third quarter with Community R-VI posting 18 points to finish the game in the win column.
Lane Thebeau tallied 17 points with six rebounds; Clay Thebeau posted 11 points with four rebounds and two steals; Justin Durham scored 11 points with five rebounds; Sean Wilson added nine points with six assists, and three steals; Connor Brooks had eight points with one steal; and Shane Meyers had three points.
“Even though we gave up 50 points, we played good defense. Clopton hit some contested shots,” Community R-VI head coach Dave Smith said. “(Clopton) played hard. We were able to match their intensity and come away with a great win on the road.”
The Trojans are 3-0 on the season in the EMO Conference and 6-1 overall. Community R-VI knocked off Van-Far 53-42 in their first round of the Madison Tournament on Wednesday, December 19. See the Leader’s January 2 issue for complete game details.
