When city pool manager Holly Jungers swung the gate open a month ago as Memorial Day weekend approached, she couldn’t help but have an eye on the sky.
Unlikely cool weather, and a healthy dose of rain, were not exactly the atmosphere needed to draw visitors to the colorful umbrellas, character fun slides and high dive.
Regardless, some came and the numbers have been improving since at the Vandalia Family Aquatic Center.
“We go as the weather goes,” said Jungers who is at the pool helm for the eleventh straight year. “It’s warming up, so the numbers of those coming to the pool are up.
This last Saturday well over 200 people visited the pool. That’s the most we’ve had in any one day this season.
“The cooler, wet weather we had earlier definitely had an impact on our numbers, but it’s improving.”
