A Martinsburg man was arrested after a serious incident on Audrain County Road 716 two Sundays ago. According to the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, James Allan Ryan, age 42, of Martinsburg, Mo., was arrested and charged for First Degree Domestic Assault, Felonious Restraint, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
According to a probable cause statement, the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department made the arrest after his wife reported a domestic assault.
She told officers that James Ryan grabbed her by the hair and threw her on the ground. She said he choked and punched her, causing pain to her neck and chin. She said he then put a gun to her head and threatened to kill her. He reportedly fired the pistol when he held it near her head making threats. She said she tried to flee the vehicle, but Ryan got into her car with her and pointed the gun at her while threatening to keep her if she drove away. James Ryan has a previous felony conviction of burglary in the second degree in St. Francois County. He remains in the Audrain County Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond. He is to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
