SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital–Audrain will host a Mammothon during the month of October encouraging women to have their annual screening mammogram. “According to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime,” Kim Weith said. Weith is the regional director of Laboratory/Imaging for SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital and added, “We really want to encourage women to bring a friend or a family member who has never had a mammogram or its been several years since their last one. Many breast cancers do not produce symptoms, and it’s more treatable the earlier it’s found.”
The hospital offers the latest 3D technology, which can detect the smallest breast cancers during the most treatable stage. There will be special hours on Saturday, October 13, as well as every Wednesday throughout the month. Participants will receive a free Mammothon T-shirt while supplies last. This service includes screening mammograms only, participants must not have had a mammogram in the past 12 months, must bring an insurance card if they have one, but do not need a physician’s order.
