The line for the walking trail is set to guide walkers at the YMCA.

It’s hard to believe, but in less than two weeks, the Eastern Missouri Family YMCA in Vandalia will be officially opening its doors.
While heading through the final stages of furnishing and completing the new YMCA in Vandalia scheduled to open Feb 11, local YMCA Director Debbie Hopke gave a small walking tour to “The Vandalia Leader” last week. During the tour, she spoke of some of the activities that will take place at the YMCA.
One of the largest features of the YMCA is a large gym that patrons will see after entering the front entrance.
The gym has two permanent basketball hoops and a room next to the gym containing several additional portable hoops that can be brought out when needed.
The flooring of the gym is set up for not only basketball, but for other sports as well.
The corridor off the main entrance leads to the Child Watch Room, where, as a member, a customer can leave their child while working out.
There is also the Y-Cafe’ and gathering place for a break when needed.
The Wellness Area contains weights and weight machines. Patrons must be at least 15 years old to be in this area due to the machines for safety issues. In this room, there is cardio on the east half, multi-function equipment in the middle, and free weights on the west.
Off the Wellness room is a room containing many extra pieces of equipment commonly used in many exercise classes.
There is a nice sized room for fitness classes set up with yoga balls, yoga blocks, and yoga matts.
A room referred to as Activity Room 1, is a meeting room off the café that can also be used for Adult Chair classes.
The YMCA also contains a walking track that is designed to allow walkers or joggers the ability to be peering into the light of the outdoors as they walk or jog the circumference of the building.
Hours of the YMCA will be Monday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday hours are 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Saturday hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Also, they will be open Sundays 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Youth must be 12 years of age to come unaccompanied by an adult or accompanied by someone at least 15 years of age or older.
There will be a special half off rate on the one time join fee of $50 for a limited time. Student join fees of $25 will remain the same.
