Coming off a one win softball season, several returners and newcomers to this year’s Community R-VI softball squad are looking to make their 2014 campaign a special one.
“We’re looking to have a better season,” said head coach Sarah Simmons. “We’ve improved a lot from practice from last season…We have some new freshman who will be strong keys to the season.”
Ket returning players include senior Samantha Jackson (CF) Amber Harrison (C), Samm Jett (P), Danielle Brooks (SS), and Dani Jackson (3B). Key newcomers include Chelsea Hoyt (IF) and Alissa Curtis (IF, P).
Jett will be the Lady Trojans’ No. 1 starter.
Defensively, Simmons said her team has already improved.
“We just look cleaner in practice,” Simmon said. “We’re looking to clean up errors we made last year.”
Offensively, several of her players had a successful time hitting the ball during the summer league and Simmons hopes for it to continue.
Brooks will provide the team a slap hitter from the left side of the plate.
Harrison hit over .500 in ASA’s.
“Offensively, we expect to be a lot better than last year,” Simmons added.
The Lady Trojans open at Bowling Green at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28. Their first home game is September 2 at 5 p.m. against Silex.
