The Community R-VI Lady Trojans traveled to Louisiana last week and left with a 53-42 victory.
Community R-VI led 32-16 at halftime after holding the Lady Bulldogs to less than 10 points in each of the first two quarters.
The Lady Trojans held off a late Lady Bulldogs charge for the 11-point victory.
Community R-VI was up by 21 points at one time. They made 16-of-19 free throws in the win.
“We had a strong first half that helped pilot a double-digit win on the road,” Curtis said. “…We had a very good night at the free throw line, which we haven’t had in recent games. I’m very proud of the girls for getting to the line and knocking them down.”
The Lady Trojans were led by three players who combined to score 42 points, the same amount the entire Louisiana squad scored in the game.
Samm Jett scored a team-high 16 points and three assists. Emmalee McCoskey had a double-double 15 points and 14 rebounds. Danielle Brooks scored 11 points and added three steals.
Before the win, the Lady Trojans lost a tough game with North Callaway earlier in the week, 51-37.
Community R-VI was down seven points after three quarters and was in position for the upset but was unable to rally for a victory.
North Callaway entered the game as the No. 10 state-ranked team in Class 3.
“We took a lot of quick jumpers that did not fall and quit attacking the rim which is something we need to improve on at the end of games,” Curtis said. “I thought our game plan defensively gave us a chance. We just had one poor offensive quarter that cost us.”
McCoskey led the Lady Trojans with a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds. Jett added nine points and three rebounds while Ashley Steele added six points and six rebounds.
