jans won their season opener by beating the Mark Twain Lady Tigers, 34-27. On Tuesday, November 26, the Lady Trojans were unable to repeat last years start following a season opening loss to the Lady Bulldogs, 49-45.
In the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs took an early lead by scoring 15 points. However, the Lady Trojans kept it close by scoring 11 points.
Sturgeon came out in the second and scored just nine points, which allowed the Lady Trojans to tie up the score 24-24.
In the third quarter, the Lady Trojans took their first and only lead of the game by scoring another 13 points, making the score 37-36.
The Lady Bulldogs were able to regain the lead by scoring 13 points in the fourth. The Lady Trojans fell short by only scoring eight points.
Samm Jett was the high scorer with 17 points. Emmalee Mccoskey scored 10 points and collected 17 rebounds.
“Sturgeon finished 26-3 last season and five of their top seven players returned from a year ago. So we knew going in that this was going to be tough road contest to start our 2013 campaign,” said head coach, Bob Curtis. “Too many missed free-throws was our ruination, as we went 9-24 from the stripe. Neither team led by more than four points all night and I think this game was a classic case of good competition can only make your team better. This game will help us get prepared for the conference season.”
