Treyton Kobush paced the young Community R-VI Trojans golf team in the Palmyra JV Tournament after tying for medalist honors.
Kobush tied a school record with a 41 over nine holes. The event was scheduled to be 18 holes but snow and wind along with cold temperatures dipping to 27 degrees shortened the tournament.
Bryan Allen shot a 47 to tie for 15th place, his personal best. Trever Hoyt shot a personal best of 52. Alex Becker started a little shaky with two 10’s before a birdie helped him finish with a 56.
The Trojans took fourth place as a team with a 196, putting them just 10 strokes behind Warrenton with a 186. Palmyra won the 10-team tournament with a 170.
“I am so proud of them,” said Community R-VI head golf coach Vicki Briggs. “They have been struggling and suddenly they all pulled it together…The team came away with a growing confidence and proud of themselves for their play in such poor weather conditions. I think they will finish the season well.”
On a Friday evening event at Monroe City, three Trojans shot in the 50’s as they were shy one player for a team score.
Hoyt shot a 56, Allen added a 57, and Kobush shot a 59.
The meet also included MMA, who shot a 200, and Monroe City, who finished with a 212.
“The evening was perfect for golf and we needed an opportunity to shoot some better scores and we did, especially Bryan and Trever,” Briggs said. “We’ve been working on swings and course management.”
