Jewell LaVerne Brunson, 85, of Louisiana passed away Oct. 13, 2013 at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana. Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at the Siloam Cemetery in New Hartford with Rev. Randell Cone officiating. Mrs. Brunson was born Jan. 30, 1928 in Purcell, Okla., the daughter of Guy Eldridge and Nell Cynthia Purcell Lewis. She was married to Raymond Brunson. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1993.
Survivors include one son Daryl L. Wright of Louisiana; two step-daughters Mickey Dedman and husband Henry of Sargent, Texas, Betty White and husband Tim of Backliff, Texas; four grandchildren Jennifer T. Wright and husband Joe Walls of Columbia, Brannon James and wife Nehad of Columbia, Willow James of Columbia and Star Leger and husband Scott of Athens, Ga.; nine great grandchildren; one sister Willanna Jean Flinn and husband Robert of Troy; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
LaVerne moved with her family to Missouri when she was three and a half years old. She owned and operated Vern’s Fabric Shop in Troy from 1964 to 1971. After selling her fabric shop she moved to Houston, Texas in 1972. She attended Houston Community College taking several courses in banking while being employed at a bank. She also worked at a hospital for several years. In 1981 she and Raymond moved back to Pike County. She attended The Church of the Great God.
