She attended the University of Missouri, and then went to work for the Civil Service in Japan. That is where she met her husband of 59 years, Frank O. Roland, Jr. As a graduate of the Naval Academy, he was serving as an Air Force aviator in the Korean War. They were married in 1953. They have lived their wonderful life together in San Antonio and Rockport.
Mrs. Roland was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence B. and Velma Wright Inlow, and her brother, Clarence W. Inlow.
Survivors include her husband, Frank O. Roland, Jr.; sons Steve Roland and wife Cindy Roland, and Mike Roland and wife Debbie Roland. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Tori Laine Roland, Beau William Roland, Shay Lynn and husband Chris Saldarriaga, Clayton Tucker Roland, and Courtney Faye Roland. Completing the family is one great-grandson, Clayton Roland, Jr. She is also fondly remembered by her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bob and Flora Roland of Alabama, and their daughters, Celia and MaryLynn.
MawMaw Roland will be best remembered as one who always served others. She had to make sure that everyone always had something delicious to eat or drink. And always with a touch or garlic. She had a flair for dressing “to a tee”, and with her bright colors, you could always see her coming. She exemplifies Philippians 2:3-5: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.
