After finding out Vandalia’s “Hometown Christmas” was cancelled, the Van-Far Character Plus Team decided to help fill the yuletide void by hosting “Holiday Fun Fest.”
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Van-Far High School on Saturday, December 1 and includes craft and vendor booths, food booths, a kids craft room and movie, and an appearance by Old Saint Nick.
“I was disappointed for the kids,” High School Principal Cindy Pirch said, referring to when she heard the news about a cancelled “Hometown Christmas.”
“We always had Santa,” she said. “There was always a Christmas celebration.”
She said volunteers are needed for the craft rooms. The cost to have an 8-foot vendor table with two chairs in the gym costs $10 with 30 spaces available and a deadline of November 28. Proceeds of the event will be donated to a children service program and the Character Plus Team request attendees bring one canned good for donation to area families in need. Those who are interested in saving a space or have questions can call Pirch at 573-594-6442
“I think it’s important to have something for the kids and for people just to come together,” Pirch said.
