The Health Leadership Team of Audrain County has recently been formed with the goal of addressing health related issues affecting residents of Audrain County.
The team currently includes representatives from the Audrain County Health Department, Audrain Medical Center, Central Missouri Community Action, City of Mexico, Audrain County, Mexico Public Schools, Mexico Senior Center, Mexico Area Family YMCA, and the University of Missouri Extension.
The Health Leadership Team is focusing on activities and programs aimed at improving the health and well-being of Audrain County residents.
The members of this group meet monthly and discuss opportunities for lifestyle changes and wellness programs which can lead to healthier individuals and families.
This group has already promoted an activity in Mexico called “Walk Mexico,” which provided encouragement and incentives to individuals and families to walk a half marathon over the course of this past summer.
The Health Leadership Team feels that informing and educating individuals can lead toward healthy changes.
In collaboration with Men’s Health month in November, an opportunity for a free wellness screening for a maximum of 100 adults (those 18 and over), will be held on Friday, November 1 at the Lange Building in Vandalia, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Wellness Screening includes, Height, Weight, Blood Pressure, BMI and Lipid Panel (cholesterol), as well as PSA for men.
After the first 100 individuals, the charge will be $50 for female and $72 for male screening.
Those participating are asked to fast before having blood work in order to check their cholesterol.
The wellness screening will be staffed with individuals from the Audrain County Health Department, Audrain Medical Center, volunteers from the League of Women Voters, and members of the Health Leadership Team.
