Glen Lawrence Selby, age 75, known as Toby to family and friends, passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Community Living Center at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. He has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Toby was born to Glen and Violet (Green) Selby on January 5, 1938 in Mexico, Mo. He is survived by his sisters, Sherrie (Loren) Lamberson of Vandalia, Mo., Vicky Dainty, (Don Law) and Connie Hampe, both of Des Moines, Iowa; a half-brother, Kent Selby of Farber, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant siblings and a half-brother, Lonnie Selby.
Toby served his Country with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Japan. He lived in Des Moines following the war and retired from the Eagle Iron Works. He was passionate about Nascar and attended many races with his buddies. He also loved motorcycles, golf, pool, shuffle board, and any game of cards. He enjoyed people and never met a stranger. A very special thank you to his niece, Sunny, and her family for taking Toby into their home and caring for him with dignity, love and compassion.
