Van-Far’s Abilene Gatson was the lone track and field athlete to advance to state sectionals after she took third by clearing 4’6”, her best jump of the season.
“Abilene is looking forward to competing in a very competitive sectional meet in Principia on Saturday,” said Van-Far head track and field coach Blake Logan.
Abby Robinson didn’t advance but did take eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14’6”.
Sharrod Connor tied for fourth place in the long jump with a leap of 20’8.75”. He missed advancing to sectionals by just a half inch as the tiebreaker was the next best jump. Brentwood’s Justice Bratcher edged him out.
Connor was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 38’3”.
Joseph Clithero advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash, which included some of the fastest runners in the state. He was third in his heat before taking seventh in the finals with a time of 11.98 seconds.
Cleveland NJROTC’s Michael Wells, who has a scholarship to Oklahoma University, won with a time of 10.73 seconds.
In the EMO Conference Meet on May 6, Van-Far had several athletes with top performances.
The Lady Indians were led by Gatson in the field events.
She took fourth in the high jump after clearing 4’4”. She also took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 28’11”.
Chevi Windland scored five team points in the 800 meters with a fourth place finish in 2:54.
In the relay events, the 4×100-meter relay team of Alexis DeTienne, Madison Orr, Emily Laskowski, and Abby Robinson placed seventh. The same group of runners also took seventh in the 4×200-meter relay.
The Lady Indians took ninth in the team standings. Montgomery County won the team title.
Connor had a strong performance as he took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.41 seconds. He also took fourth in the long jump after leaping 19’1.5”. He placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 37’3.25”.
In the relay events, Connor teamed with Connor Albrecht, Chad Garland, and Logan Boyd to take sixth in the 4×100-meter relay.
Connor, Boyd, Albrecht, and Clithero was sixth in the 4×200-meter relay.
Clithero also took sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 12:07 seconds.Gay took seventh in the 3,200 meters in 12:55.74.The Indians took seventh place overall as a team with 25 points. Bowling Green won the team title.
