Community R-VI seniors Sean Wilson and Justin Durham teamed with Van-Far senior Ryan Nelson to lift the Dark Team to a 60-47 victory over the White Team featuring Van-Far’s Ethan Gooch and Brian Kurz. The EMO Senior Showcase game was played on Friday, March 22 at North Callaway High School.
Kurz scored three of the White Team’s first three points to pace his squad early.
With about five minutes left in the first half, Gooch scored a basket and then made three free throws after being fouled on a three point shot for an 18-16 edge.
Wilson had several assists in the first half, connecting a few times with North Callaway’s Justin Murphy. Murphy made four 3-pointers and scored 14 of his game-high 18 points in the half to pace the Dark Team to a 34-23 halftime edge.
Gooch opened the second half by converting a 3-point play to close the gap to eight.
Nelson, Durham, and Wilson each scored two points in the second half as the Dark Team was led by Clopton’s Levi Adams. Adams scored nine points to help his team pull away for a 13-point victory.
Wilson scored two points, nine assists, six rebounds, one block, and one steal while Durham added two points and seven rebounds. Nelson finished with two points, eight rebounds, and one block.
Gooch scored eight points for the White Team and also had four steals, one rebound, and one assist. Kurz had three points with five rebounds and one steal.
The White Team roster also included Wellsville’s Bryn Trent; Vance Allen and Jacob Haubner of North Callaway; Elsberry’s Charles Fraction and Cody Shaw with their coach Ryan Parker; Clopton’s Hank Owens; Silex’s Augie Martin; and Montgomery County’s Tim Kroll.
The Dark Team’s roster included Silex’s Joey RauMassey, Ryan Eisenbath, and Austin Fleming (who didn’t show) along with their coach Chad Twellman; North Callaway’s Justin Murphy and Zac Eads; Clopton’s Levi Adams; and Wellsville’s Steven Ebers.
Kurz represented Van-Far and Wilson represented Community R-VI in this year’s 3-point contest.
Wilson scored five points and Kurz scored four as both finished just one point short of first round winners Hank Owens, of Clopton, and Justin Murphy, of North Callaway.
Both Owens and Murphy tied in a shootout before a third round finished with Owens pulling out a 2-1 victory.
At halftime of the boys game, Tim Murphy purchased an autographed basketball for $500. Dollars from the auction will go towards EMO scholarships.
