VANDALIA—Remembering loved ones during the holiday season was the theme at Waters Funeral Home on Tuesday night, as Vandalia area residents came together to share in their grief and honor those who had recently died.
“We started this last year as a way for the community to get through the holidays,” said Nick Johnston, funeral director at Waters funeral home.
Beginning with an invocation by Pastor Jon Clark, candles of grief, love, memories, and hope were lit in recognition of the different stages family members go through when dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Also on hand were memorial ornaments with the deceased names engraved on them, so they could be placed on the family’s Christmas tree, or kept as a keepsake.
“We hope this, in some way, helps with their grief and loss,” Johnston said.
