September 13 marked the annual Area 5 FFA Leadership Conference, the Audrain County R-VI FFA Chapter attended this year with 27 members.
Held at Bowling Green High School, the event teaches leadership, communication, and teamwork as the key character skills to be a successful, well rounded individual.
At the event we split up into different groups, with the other schools from our area and did leadership activities. In our groups, we played different games where we had to work together and communicate with each other.
Each activity taught us different leadership skills, for example, how important it is to give each person’s idea a chance and let everyone share their opinion. For myself, it was hard to be the one giving some ideas because you don’t want your idea to be ignored or get made fun of. But, for a good team to work, everyone needs to have a part in something and have different ideas to try. It was a fun way to get to know other people you have never talked to and get out of your comfort zone. Also, it gave us the opportunity to work with the Area 5 FFA Officers, learn about their success in the FFA, and set goals for yourself for the upcoming years within the organization.
One special attraction to this years event was the opportunity to interact with a National FFA Officer. Within the National FFA organization, there are 6 National officers that serve the membership. We were fortunate to have Jason Troendle, National Central Region Secretary, from Minnesota to speak about his experiences and opportunities within the FFA. Our members enjoyed the evening and especially enjoyed working with and meeting new members from other schools.
