Deadline to file for elections approaching

Candidates have less than a week to declare their candidacy and file for numerous electoral races in Vandalia and the surrounding area.
The deadline to file for the upcoming election, held on April 7, will be next Tuesday, January 21.
Here is the list of seats in the area up for election:

City of Vandalia
The city of Vandalia has four seats up for election this year.
As of press time, Mayor Ralph Kuda Jr., the incumbent, is running unopposed.
Ward I – Alderman Ramon Barnes, the incumbent, has not filed. Larry Shaw has filed.
Ward II – Alderman Janet Turner, the incumbent, has filed and is running unopposed.
Ward III – Alderman John Weiser, the incumbent, has filled, and Linda Wilson is challenging the seat.

City of Laddonia
The city of Laddonia has two alderman seats up for election.
As of press time, Alderman Gary Garnett and Alderman Eric Craft, both incumbents, have not filled, and their seats remain unchallenged.

City of Martinsburg
Ward I – Alderman Josh Graver, the incumbent, has filed and is running unopposed.
Ward II – Alderman Bob Cope, the incumbent, has not filed, and the seat remains unchallenged.

City of Curryville
The city of Curryville has two alderman seats up for reelection.
Alderman Jeanie Barton, the incumbent, has filed and is running unopposed.
One alderman seat remains unfilled, and as of press time, no one has filed for the position.

City of Middletown
The city of Middletown has two alderman seats up for reelection.
Alderman Georgia Scarborough, the incumbent, has filed, and the seat remains unchallenged.
Alderman James Shaw, the incumbent, has filed, and the seat remains unchallenged.

City of Wellsville
The city of Wellsville has two alderman seats up for reelection.
Ward I – Liza Darr, the incumbent, has filed, and the seat remains unchallenged.
Ward II – Paula Adams, the incumbent, has filed, and the seat remains unchallenged.

Van-Far School District
There are three school board seats up for election.
Current school board members Larry Wheeler and Justin Hopke have both filed for reelection.
School board member Jim Hopke has not filed and is not seeking reelection.
Jessica Reading and Kevin Motley have both filed for the election.

Community R-VI School District
There are three school board seats up for election.
As of press time, John Robnett is the only person who has filed.
