VANDALIA—Barry Dalton has joined Lakeway Publishers of Missouri as a reporter/editor for the Vandalia Leader. Dalton graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism in 1989 after serving in the U.S. Army for three years. Dalton is also a 1988 honor graduate of U.S. Defense Information School.
Over the years, Dalton has written articles for the Columbia Missourian, Educational Technology magazine, Mid Missouri Business Journal, La Nacion newspaper in Costa Rica and the American Public Works Association’s magazine. He was also the editor of two education trade magazines.
“I grew up in Mexico. I was an usher at the cinema there and even filled in a time or two at the Vandalia Cinema during high school and college,” Dalton said. “Since those wonderful days of the ’80s, I’ve traveled the world and lived in Turkey, Costa Rica and most recently Thailand for 10 years. My family and I moved back to Missouri about four years ago.”
Dalton is married to Joyce and they have two children—Luke, 5, and Jake, 2. He also has two children from a previous marriage—Josh, 20, and Bailey, 19.
“I’m excited about getting back to my journalism roots,” Dalton said. “There are a lot of positive things going on in Vandalia and Audrain County. I’ve enjoyed my travels, it has opened my eyes in many ways, but I want everyone to know what a special part of the world we’re fortunate to live in, and I hope that’s reflected in my writing.”
