Despite rolling her ankle two days prior to the Community R-VI varsity girls match-up against Wellsville on Friday, January 11, senior Paige Curtis posted a game-high 19 points with eight rebounds in the Lady Trojans’ 57-25 victory.
“It was a very gutsy performance by our senior leader, who rolled her ankle just two days before the contest,” Community R-VI head coach Bob Curtis said. “I wasn’t sure she would even be able to play.”
Community R-VI held Wellsville to a single point in the first quarter as the Lady Trojans established a 36-9 lead by the end of the first half.
Community R-VI slowed its pace in the third quarter, outscoring Wellsville 11-10 and 11-6 in the final frame. Emmalee McCoskey, Danielle Brooks, and Paige Harris each chipped in eight points in the win. McCoskey had seven rebounds. Ashley Steele and Amelia Knipfel chipped in five points with Julie Hale and Leah Mays adding two points. Brooks had five assists and six steals.
“The win ran our conference record to 4-0 on the season, setting up a big game with North Callaway on Monday, January 21, at their place,” Curtis said.
