Community R-VI hosted a Veteran’s Day celebration on Friday, November 8. The festivities kicked off at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium with a biscuits and gravy breakfast, complimented with fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee.
At 9 a.m., the Missouri Military Academy, under the direction of First Sergeant Randal Jacobson presented the colors.
District choir participants Lakin Davenport, Curtis Lierheimer, Bianca Dunmire, and Aaron Johnson sang the National Anthem.
First hour ITV students Kaleb Harris, Leah Mays, Lindsey Gastler, and Ashley Steele recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.”
Alex Becker then welcomed all veterans and guests in attendance. The middle school/high school band played the march songs for each branch of the military. Veterans were encouraged to stand up when their branch song was played.
Curtis Lierheimer played “Homeward Bound” on the guitar, followed by “Let Freedom Ring,” sung by the Middle School Choir.
Leah Mays and Shane Myers read off the names of local veterans that have served, along with their military service information. Local American Legion and VFW Posts were also recognized.
The high school choir sang “O America,” followed by “Yankee Doodle Rides Again” performed by the middle school/high school band with narration by teacher, Pat Rea. The Missouri Military Academy conducted a flag folding ceremony, R-VI elementary students sang “Hooray for the USA,” and Alex Becker closed the ceremony.
