The Laddonia Ministerial Alliance has set community Thanksgiving services to be held Sunday, November 19 at the Laddonia First Baptist Church, located at 301 Maple St., beginning at 7 p.m. The Rev. D Randall Cone, minister of the Laddonia Presbyterian Church, will bring a message entitled “Gratitude for God’s Help.” The scripture reading will be from Luke 7:36-47 and the special music will be provided by First Baptist Church. The churches of Laddonia welcome you to attend the service.
The Vandalia Leader office will be closed on Thanksgiving, which is Thursday, November 23. Our office will re-open on Friday, November 24 at 8 a.m. but is expected to close early.
Farber Community Betterment presents “Photos with Santa” on Friday, December 1. The Farber Community Building Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., children can have their photos taken with Santa by Easton Sharp with Sharp Images. A $1 donation is suggested and all proceeds will go to The Angel Tree.
The Community Christmas Hymn Sing will be held on Sunday, December 3 at 6 p.m. at the Vandalia First Christian Church. The service is sponsored by the Vandalia Area Ministerial Alliance. Contact the First Christian Church at 573-594-2703 with any questions.
The Audrain County Area Public School Retirees will meet at 10:30 a.m. on December 6 at the Mexico Public Schools Central Office, located at 2101 Lakeview Road. Lunch will be provided by the school district and our entertainment will be a musical performance by “Noteworthy” from Mexico High School. All public school retirees are welcome. Please RSVP to Teresa Wenzel at 594-3375 by December 1.
The St. Joseph Parish Breakfast will be Sunday, December 10 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Martinsburg. The breakfast includes all you care to eat and will be featuring omelets.
The Audrain County Health Department will be closed on Friday, December 15 for Mandatory Training and will re-open on Monday, December 18 at 8 a.m.
Santa will be at the Farber Firehouse from 2–4 p.m. on Saturday, December 16.
Children of all ages are welcome. Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided to all attending at no cost.
This event is sponsored by Farber Fire Department, First Responders, and the Fire Department Auxiliary.
The YMCA is sponsoring “Cookies with Santa” on December 17 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Area Historical Society (VAHS).
Depending upon weather and the construction schedule, area residents are invited to sign the building concrete slab with sidewalk chalk at 3:30 p.m. on December 17. The drawing for the 1/4 side of beef will also occur at this time. Both events will be free of charge.
