The regular meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society (VAHS) will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 15 in the Genealogical Library on Main St. Everyone is welcome at the meetings of the VAHS.
Vandalia area homeschoolers and interested community members are invited for a time of prayer during this year’s “See You At The Pole” day at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26 at the flag pole in front of the YMCA. The focus of the prayer time together is to pray for friends, students, teachers, family, our nation, the world, and for God to be glorified.
There are close to 50 basketball players set to participate in the Van-Far Alumni men’s and women’s basketball games on Saturday, September 29 starting at 4 p.m.

The Frankford Rural Fire Department will be hosting its 4th Annual Quarter Madness on Friday, October 5 at the Jennings Opry Building in Frankford. They will begin serving at 5:30 p.m., and the Quarter Madness will follow at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds are to benefit the new rural fire house.
The 4th annual Vandalia Police Department Trunk or Treat will be held Oct. 27 at the Vandalia Fairgrounds from 5-8 p.m.
Free walking tacos and drinks will be served by the police department in the fair board concession stand.
Included will be a hay ride, hay maze, haunted house, corn crib treasure hunt, games, and other activities.
The Vandalia Police Department, Van-Far Ambulance, Vandalia Fire Department, Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, local businesses, surrounding agencies, and organizations will be passing out treats.
The First Christian Church will host a Harvest Party on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 4-6 p.m. in the church parking lot at 205 W. Park St. Included in the fun evening will be a bounce house, hay maze, hay ride, corn bin for younger kids, pony rides, 9-square, face painting, free family and group photos, candy for the kids, and freshly-made kettle corn. Everyone is welcome!
The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 6 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the First Baptist Church in Vandalia. The Vandalia Area Ministerial Alliance (VAMA) welcomes everyone to attend.
The Mexico Senior Center Christmas Bash will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 606 Park St., in Mexico.
Along with lunch, hot and toasty hot chocolate will be available. Included will be a lunch, Silent Auction, and a Bake Sale. The lunch menu includes homemade cheesy potato soup, chili, spiced apples, biscuits and gravy, sausage, celery and a veggie tray, pumpkin pie and whipped cream.
The Silent Auction will have new and slightly used gift items, gift certificates, homemade Christmas items, and a huge bake sale. Santa Claus will be attending and the public is welcome to come and support the local senior center! Bids will be awarded at 12:15 p.m.
The Laddonia Community Choir invites the public to attend their performance of “Hope Has Hands,” created by Sue C. Smith, Phil Cross, and Russell Mauldin.
The cantata will be performed at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the First Baptist Church, 301 Maple St., in Laddonia. A light meal will be served following the performance. The Laddonia Community Choir is made up of members from several area churches.
The Annual Christmas Hymn Sing will be held at the First Christian Church on Sunday, Dec. 2, beginning at 6 p.m., and is sponsored by the Vandalia Area Ministerial Alliance (VAMS). Everyone is invited.
