The monthly meeting of the Vandalia Area Historical Society (VAHS) will take place on Saturday, July 21 at 9 a.m. in the Genealogy Library. Everyone is welcome to attend meeting of the VAHS.
The First Christian Church in Vandalia will be hosting its VBS Program, “Shipwrecked, Rescued By Jesus” from 6-8:30 p.m. July 23-27. The Vandalia Library will have a “Meet and Greet” for the new Mexico-Audrain District Library Director Christal Bruner on Tuesday, July 24 from 3-5 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and say “hello.” Refreshments will be served.
Judy Steward is coming from Hewitt, Texas to Wellsville to teach two classes on Friday-Saturday, July 27-28 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day at “The Show-Me Shoppe,” 113 W. Hudson, in Wellsville.
In one class, Steward will teach her newest pattern, the “Flag Table Runner” (or wall hanging). The second class is entitled “Machine Quilting on your Domestic Sewing Machine.” Class fees are $45 each. There will also be an additional $10 fee for the pattern on the day of the class. Steward is a speaker and quilt instructor who teaches, mostly throughout Texas, speaking to quilt guilds and sharing her knowledge and fun stories. The American Legion Auxiliary Craft and Vendor Show will be held on Saturday, August 4 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at 19311 Highway 22 in Mexico.
The annual Ice Cream Social will be held beginning at 4 p.m. at the Historic St. Paul Catholic Church in Center on Sunday, August 5.
Homemade ice cream, cake, barbecue sandwiches, and chips will be served. A “free will” offering will be taken and raffle items will also be available.
Meet the candidates at 6 p.m. The church is located on Route EE in Ralls County. The proceeds from this event will go to benefit the church maintenance. Good fellowship will be enjoyed by all.
The Community R-VI School District will hold a public hearing on August 15 at 7 p.m. in the Community R-VI School District Media Center on whether to designate a School Protection Officer for the Community R-VI District.
The next Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) Resource and Exchange meeting will be held at 9:30-11:15 a.m. on September 18 at the First Baptist Church Multipurpose Building, in Vandalia.

The Audrain County Health Department will be closed on Monday, September 3 for Labor Day and will re-open on Tuesday, September 4 at their regular time.
A concert will be given by the Air Force Band Sunday, September 9 from 6-7 p.m. at Vandalia First Christian Church. “Liberty Winds,” the “Woodwinds Band” from the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America, is stationed at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. The ensemble is committed to honor and inspire our military and civilian audiences by presenting a wide range of musical literature, from traditional classical repertoire to marches and light pop.
